Gopa our mum battled bravely against breast cancer and sadly passed away on 5th May 2020.

She was diagnosed 9 years ago and in spite of doctor’s giving her couple of years she fought it for almost 10 years. Her consultant had to change his belief about the prognosis of breast cancer, and so did we.

She inspired so many people with her ever positive spirit, even when she knew the end was in sight. Independence and self reliance was her mantra. She had always been an advocate for education of children for self reliance. Teaching came naturally to her. Although she taught undergraduate students as a professional, she tutored many school kids for free especially the ones from disadvantaged backgrounds as she wanted them to have equal opportunities in life. Her students remember her a kind and gentle teacher who had a sense of humour and always had their best interests at heart.

By founding Gopa Foundation we want to honour her memory and keep her spirit alive, by providing help to children who due to their circumstances have not been able to access education, regardless of their religion, caste, colour or social status.

This was something Gopa always wanted to do, we are only realising her dream.
